Calories from protein, fats and carbs are not the same in terms of fat loss

To get lean and lose body fat there is one universal principle; burn more calories than you consume. However, does the type of calories (fats, protein and carbs) consumed within the diet have any bearing on the end result when it comes to fat loss?

Fat contains more than twice the calories of protein and carbohydrates. So, unless you've got a pumpkin for a head, you'll know how important it is to reduce the amount of unnecessary fats in your diet. However, what about protein and carbs? Is there any difference between these two regarding fat loss? A recent study suggests that there is.

A recent study completed by scientists at SUNY Downstate Medical Center revealed that people lost more body fat when they upped the protein percentage of their calorie-controlled diet (thus lowering the carb content). Increasing the ratio of protein in the diet is a winner for fat loss as it stabilizes blood sugar levels, improves insulin function and preserves lean body mass. However, don't cut carbohydrate out altogether. If you exercise intensely, carbs are still an essential part of the diet. The timing of carbohydrate intake after exercise is all-important to maximize fat loss and boost muscle gains. Read how to do it, here.
