Chromium supplementation improves blood sugar metabolism

A diet that is rich in junk food promotes poor insulin metabolism; a condition where muscles desensitize to insulin. This condition makes the job of efficient nutrient transport much more difficult and worst of all, it promotes fat accumulation. Years ago, research showed that supplementation with chromium picolinate improved the sensitivity of insulin receptors in muscle cells in people diagnosed with insulin resistance (one step away from type-2 diabetes). However, the results of a recent study suggest that chromium supplementation may also help healthy people improve their blood sugar metabolism. That's great news for bodybuilders.

Excess blood sugar from large meals is one cause of insulin resistance. High blood sugar levels also prevent fat utilization for fuel. In this study, a group of fit young men were given 400 or 800 micrograms of chromium picolinate or a placebo every day for 16 weeks. Results of this study showed that supplementation with chromium picolinate reduced blood sugar faster than the men given the placebo and therefore, improved insulin metabolism.

The results of this study suggest that a dose of chromium picolinate each day may help improve blood sugar and insulin metabolism in healthy people. Unfortunately not a lot of foods are a rich source of bioavailable chromium. However, each serving of Ny-Tro PRO-40 contains a quality dose of chromium picolinate. One or two servings of Ny-Tro PRO-40 each day will go a long way to maintaining healthy blood sugar metabolism and better fat loss.
